Pima County Public Defense Services Building, Tucson, AZ
“We Have Not Wings” is a glass and aluminum mural inspired by the work of the Pima County public defenders, judges, advocates, and their clients, who are often dealing with extremely difficult family situations.
The central image features a figure striving upwards through a fragmented landscape. On either side, images of native plants (Agave and Ocotillo) also reach upwards. In the sky, a series of constellations form the image of a bird and other symbols, representing self-determination and freedom, goals to be achieved through slow and steady effort.
“We have not wings, we cannot soar; But we have feet to scale and climb, By slow degrees, by more and more…” – Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
